With transfer rates of up to 6 Gbit/s, the SATA (Serial AT Attachment) interface for connecting data storage media in servers, workstations and storage systems already provides sufficient performance for a wide range of applications. However, the access speeds of commonly used HDDs (hard disk drives) are limited by the technical design of rotating discs and mechanical parts for reading and writing data. SATA SSDs (Solid State Drives) can offer a solution, using flash memory and no moving parts to deliver much faster access speeds and greater resistance to shock and vibration.
