The improvements of HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus Servers

The technical innovations for increased computing performance include the support of third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors in socket 4189. Compared to the previous generations, these offer a higher number of processing cores and memory channels, as well as larger cache and support for the fourth-generation PCI Express standard. The resulting improved performance of the server enables meeting increasing demands. Depending on the required computing power, CPUs from three performance classes can be used:

• Xeon Silver: up to 20 cores
• Xeon Gold: up to 32 cores
• Xeon Platinum: up to 40 cores

HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus servers also offer advantages over their predecessors in the main memory segment. Each processor benefits from 16 memory slots that can support DDR4 RAM modules up to PC4-3200, enabling high memory speeds. When all 32 DIMM slots are fully equipped with load-reduced memory modules (LRDIMM), a total capacity of up to eight TB can be achieved to meet almost all requirements of memory-intensive applications.

To ensure high flexibility in the provision of storage space, HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus servers offer a variety of storage options. Depending on the model and configuration, the systems can take up to 12 LFF drives in 3.5" format or 24 SFF drives in 2.5" form factor. Both traditional HDDs (hard disk drives) and SSDs (solid state drives) with SAS or SATA connections can be used. Optionally available additional drive cages also allow the integration of additional hard disks. With a large selection of compatible RAID controllers, NVMe SSDs (Non-Volatile Memory Express) can also be integrated and managed, which enable particularly high speeds due to their PCIe connection.

By using all optionally available PCIe riser cards, a total of up to eight PCI Express Gen4 slots are available, which can be equipped with high performance graphic cards and computing accelerators, for example.

Depending on the existing network technology and the required transfer speed, a large selection of network cards for the Ethernet and Infiniband standards is available, which can often also be equipped with transceivers and therefore enable high flexibility. In addition to the PCIe slots, the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus also features an OCP 3.0 slot (Open Compute Project) for compatible network cards from various manufacturers.

HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus rack servers can be equipped with very performant components and therefore require an appropriate power supply. For this purpose, redundant Flex Slot power supply units with up to 1600 W and high efficiency through the Platinum Standard enable reliable operation of high-performance configurations as well as increased reliability.
To achieve the required cooling of the components, CPU heatsinks and chassis fans in standard or high-performance versions can be used, depending on the requirements of the specific configuration.
